MINING

Nigeria’s mining sector is fast emerging as a frontier of economic diversification, with vast untapped deposits of solid minerals such as gold, lithium, limestone, iron ore, coal, and gemstones spread across the federation. The government’s policy thrust, anchored on the Minerals and Mining Act and ongoing reforms, positions the sector as a critical revenue earner and job creator, while reducing overdependence on oil.

Investment Opportunities lie in exploration, mining operations, mineral processing, and value addition. Global demand for critical minerals especially lithium, cobalt, and rare earth elements presents Nigeria with a chance to integrate into the global green energy value chain. Furthermore, industrial minerals such as limestone and barite provide inputs for construction, cement, and oil & gas industries, enhancing backward integration.

Licensing and Financing: With the Federal Government granting mining licenses to qualified operators, licensees face the challenge of raising finance for exploration and operations. The sector offers multiple financing windows: public private partnerships, mineral asset-backed lending, and collaborations with international development finance institutions. As Nigeria builds investor confidence through transparent licensing and data-driven geological surveys, licensees can leverage their permits as collateral to access capital.

OEM Partnerships: Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) are vital for efficient and modern mining operations. By entering into strategic partnerships with OEMs, Nigerian licensees can access cutting-edge technology, lease or purchase machinery on favorable terms, and establish local assembly or maintenance hubs. This not only lowers costs but also builds local capacity and employment in mining equipment servicing.

With deliberate government support, access to financing, and strong OEM collaborations, Nigeria’s mining sector can scale rapidly into a globally competitive industry unlocking revenue, industrial growth, and sustainable employment opportunities
